MPEG2/4. H.264 Codec and transcode

The D7Pro is a digital media processor addressing Professional Broadcast applications. Its multiple, programmable media processors provide multi-standard encode, decode and transcode of high definition compressed/uncompressed and encrypted digital audio/video media. The programmable media processors provide a flexible trade-off between computation and quality. For the professional contribution domain, the D7Pro provides scalable solutions that can satisfy the different video quality and latency requirements of news gathering and event gathering, including marquee premium events with codecs spanning the entire spectrum from mobile and SD to 1080p60 10-bit 4:2:2. The versatile D7Pro is equally useful in professional distribution applications by providing industry-leading video quality at the lowest bitrates even at high channel densities. Dense integration of multiple programmable MIPS cores and semi-programmable media processors, in combination with system-in-package DDR3 high-speed memory and a rich set of system interfaces, including PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet and AV I/O, make the D7Pro the most advanced professional codec silicon in the market today.

The D7Pro supports native 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 encoding in multiple codec formats including H.264, MPEG-2,AVC-Intra, VC-1, MPEG-4 Part 2 among others, as well as multiple resolutions, including 1080p60,1080i60/720p60, SD and sub-SD. A single D7Pro packs enough media processing performance to encode one 10-bit 4:2:2 HD stream, or up to two 8-bit 4:2:0 HD streams or up to eight 8-bit 4:2:0 SD streams in any format. The D7Pro further excels in transcoding at high density and high video quality through decode-encode from any format to any format of up to 4 HD and 8 SD streams. The D7Pro is capable of much higher transcode/transrate densities using tightly coupled implementations.

Support for H.264, MPEG-2 and AVC-Intra encoding and decoding at 4:2:2 pixel resolutions allows broadcast content to be processed with pristine quality. Examples of encoding 4:2:2 chroma sampled video includes H.264 Hi422P@L4.2, MPEG-2 HP@HL and AVC-Intra 100.

Integration of audio, video, transport, control and management interfaces, as well as DDR memory in a 31mm x 31mm package greatly simplifies overall board design and enables high density designs. A dual-lane Gen1 2.5Gbps PCI Express port allows integration with an external host, and an integrated GigaBit Ethernet MAC facilitates the transition from ASI-based interfaces to Ethernet-based ones. Integration of HDMI with deep color support and DACs for Component, CVBS and Y/C analog video outputs provides a level of integration of special importance for professional IRD solutions.
